Faith Church

Church is the body of Christ. It is the believing and worshiping community that makes the Church a reality in the level. The Christian Church is not an organization or a building but a faith community: loving, caring and sharing community that proclaim and manifests her faith and life in Christ.

St. Thomas Marthoma Church, the third Marthoma Church in the windy city of Chicago, was established in 2004. The planning and prayer for this endeavor had begun long before. Rev. V. T. Josen, Rev. Samuel George, Rev. Roy A. Thomas and Rev. David Daniel had the vision and dedication to think ahead of time. Rev.Jose Prakash gave the leadership to carry on this mission. The members of Chicago Mar Thoma church has been working together with us from 2000 for a new church. To accomplish this grant mission, many programs were organized, and all of these required enormous effort from all our church members.

The church is a body, not a building; an organism not an organization. When people from different backgrounds, race, and social status come together in love as a “church family”, it is a powerful witness to the world. It is a lab for practicing, selfless and empathetic love. As a participating member, we learn to care about others, and be willing to be part of each others life, supporting each other through various life experiences. In the New Testament, the phrase “one another” or “each other” is used over fifty times. A church family identifies you as a genuine believer, and it moves you out of self-centered isolations. It also helps you develop spiritual muscle that will keep you safe from back sliding. The body of Christ needs you. “The Christian life is more than just commitment to Christ; it includes a commitment to each other.” These lines from Rick Warren are very meaningful. The theme of our dedication souvenir is: “Church -a home for all”. Rick Warren’s statement very well describes the true meaning of this theme.

At present, the Mar Thoma Syrian Church has 12 Dioceses. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius, Episcopa, presides over the Diocese of North America and Europe. The Diocesan office of North America is located at 2320 S. Merrick Aye, Merrick, New York. We have functioning organizations for children, youth, women, and evangelistic work. Among the immigrant community, the Church promotes the spiritual life of its members in their new life situation by maintaining the doctrines and traditions received from our forefathers in Kerala, India.

The Mar Thoma Church has been dynamically involved in the social and cultural spheres of North America and Europe for the past 30 years.
